Poor quality of materials of modern book collections is accompanied even with large quantity of documents in this segment of collections: in the National Library CR, there is up to 96 % of book collections, whereas their contents still increases. In term of care of modern collections contain variety of materials. After brief description of modern library collections this paper will be focused on methods of nondestructive analyses of composition, chemical structure and physical state of modern library collection exemplars. Physical condition of modern library collections were investigated using of SurveNIR measuring system, microfadeometer, obtained data were collected in ""The Central knowledge base RD"". SurveNIR measuring system is method used compared measured infrared spectra (NIR) with extensive spectrum library (database) of known samples of sheets of paper, in which pH were measured, together with degree of polymerization, and contents of lignin, proteins and rosins, tensile strength, tensile strength after folding, and presence of optical brighteners. This database is used for chemometric calibration of a purpose-built NIR spectrometer to characterize the degradation rate of paper. Microfadeometer is instrument for determination of light stability and sensitivity, it is used for exhibition strategy. The article describes the methods of book collection examination and the use of databases and statistical data from the examination in practice. Nowadays, care for modern library collections in the Czech Republic consists first of all in so-called preventive conservation, or setting climatic conditions and conditions of depositing or interventions of conservative character, bookbinding work, disinfection, in some case deacidification in order to decelerate degradation reactions of materials.
