This research monograph deals with one of the most important steps in the care of library collection: preventive conservation measures. It should serve as an inspiration for montioring and regulating climate parameters in library depositories for all libraries in the Czech Republic. At the same time, it can be of benefit for the staff of libraries and other cultural institutions. Presented in this monograph are the results of long-term measurements, the development of the methods of monitoring climate parameters, control options and case studies and subprojects of colleagues from the Czech Academy of Sciences. The book also introduces the issue of preventive conservation and provides clarification of terminology in this aera for greater understanding. It contains dozens of illustrative photographs of equipment and graphical processing of the results, all of which illustrate the overall approaches to preventive conservation and understanding of the results of long-term measurements and monitoring of conditions in depositories. It also important to compare the different types of depositories available to the National Library, where approaches for different types of libraries, depositories or warehouses are illustrated. Last but not least, the types of library collection materials and their degradation caused by the surrounding environment ares introduced.
