Revised occurrence of Heterotoma species (Heteroptera: Miridae) in the Czech Republic and Slovakia with remarks on nomenclature, diagnostic characters, and ecology

Revision of the all available material of the plant bug genus Heterotoma Lepeletier et Serville, 1825 from main museal and private collections in the Czech Republic was accomplished. We documented occurrence of Heterotoma merioptera (Scopoli, 1763) in the Czech Republic (both in Bohemia and Moravia) and Slovakia, and occurrence of H. planicornis (Pallas, 1772) only in the Czech the Czech Republic (both Bohemia and Moravia). Heterotoma merioptera is also recrded from Montenegro for the first time. The history of taxonomical confusion of both species is reviewed, and neotypes are designated for both H. merioptera and H. planicornis to fix the present usage of these names. Diagnostic characters, bionomy, phenology, and ecology of both species are reviewedand discussed.
