František Škroup (1801 - 1862) was one of the most important personalities of music culture in the Czech lands during the first half of the 19th century. From 1827 till 1857, he worked as a conductor in the Estates Theatre in Prague. From 1860 - 1862, hewas appointed as an opera conductor in Rotterdam. In Netherlands, he also died. He was also an important music composer and is the author of the song "Kde domov můj" (Where is my home), which spontaneously became the Czech national anthem already in the1850s. After the establishement of the Czechoslovak Republik in 1918, the song has become the state anthem as well.
