The Music Collections of the Czech Museum of Music Related to the Music History of the First Half of the 20th Century

This contribution is partly devoted to the history of the Music History Division of the Czech Museum of Music (CMM). It describes in a brief survey its 2 main departments, I. the music archives and II. the music libary and characterizes their´s collections. It gives also a description of the fifth section of the music archives ? the collection of the printed documentation and enumerates its most important and interesting materials, including concert programmes, concerning music life in Prague in the first half of the 20th century. It draws attention to the famous European composers, conductors and performing artists, who visited Prague in this period and mentions leading Czech opera singers, concerts soloists and ensembles of that time as well. It enumerates also important Czech and German music societies and clubs, which were active in Prague in this period. It also deals with the important European string quartets, which were guests in Prague in the first half of the 20th century.
