The terracottas found its way to the Black Sea Area together with the influx of Ionian colonists in the 6th century B.C. The oldest items are from the Kimmerian Bosporus, from Berezan and in the west from Apollonia. These are for the most part direct imports from Ionia ? Miletos, Samos. In the 1st half of the 5th century B.C. the Ionian products are replaced by Attic terracottas. Local production introduced classical types that were further developed in the 4th century. Boetian products appear in the 4th century B.C. Corinthian imports are very rare. The question of imports and exports within the Black Sea region and Propontis represents an important but as yet not solved chapter.
