Ein berühmter altägyptischer Mythos erzählt von einer Göttin, die voller Wut Ägypten verlässt und fortan als Auge des Sonnengottes Re im fernen Nubien - genauer gesagt in Kusch - lebt. In der Regel wird eine männliche Gottheit nach Nubien geschickt, um die Göttin zu besänftigen und sie zu ihrem Vater, dem Sonnengott Re, nach Ägypten zurückzubringen. In der meroitischen Variante des Mythos übernimmt Mut, die Gemahlin von Amun, die Rolle der fernen, zornigen Göttin, und dem Gott Bes kommt die Rolle des Besänftigers zu.

A famous ancient Egyptian myth tells of a goddess who leaves Egypt full of anger and henceforth lives as the eye of the sun god Re in distant Nubia - more precisely in Kush. Usually a male deity is sent to Nubia to appease the goddess and bring her back to her father, the sun god Re, in Egypt. In the Meroitic variant of the myth, Mut, the wife of Amun, takes on the role of the distant angry goddess, and the god Bes plays the role of pacifier
