The paper describes Japonisme at the turn of the 20th century in the fine arts of the Czech lands and explains the fact that it did not bring about the representation of Japanese style solely in the fine arts ? that is, through visual perception ? it also stimulated the imagination in the spheres of literature and social life, an imagination that reflected ?the exotic world of Japan?, providing viewers with an escape from reality.
