The Work of Famous Chinese Women Painters from the Time of the Qing Dynasty at the National Gallery in Prague
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The article focuses on the history of women painters in traditional China, especially during the time of the Qing Dynasty. The history of Chinese painting prior to the twentieth century, like in Western art, is primarily centred on male artists. This is mainly the result of the strict division between the male public and the female private (domestic) spheres that existed in traditional Chinese Confucian society. An important shift in the social role of women occurred under the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) and especially during the rule of the last Chinese dynasty, the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911). Fundamental changes in society at that time led to a rise in the number of female artists, far more than had ever been seen before inChinese history. Many of these women painters enjoyed great popularity and their workswere much in demand among contemporary art collectors.
