Die Tagung widmete sich der in Böhmen entstandenen und nach Bern exportierten steinernen Pietà, die 1986 zusammen anderen bei der Reformation zerstörten Skulpturen geborgen wurde. Neben Überlegungen zum Erhaltungszustand, zu Stil, Datierung und Typus dieser Figur im Vergleich mit anderen böhmischen Bildwerken stand die Frage nach der Bedeutung des Werkes in Bern im Vordergrund. Handelte es sich um einen absichtsvollen Kunstimport, der die Interessen und Vorlieben der bernischen Elite bedient und als Ausgangspunkt für nachfolgende künstlerische Strategien in der aufstrebenden Stadt zu interpretieren ist? In diesem Zusammenhang wurden die künstlerischen und die wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen im alten Heiligen Römischen Reich, speziell die von Prag und Böhmen ausgehenden, aus verschiedenen Positionen der Wissenschaften und das Berner Beispiel ist mit ähnlichen Fällen aus den Ländern des Heiligen Römischen Reiches zu evaluieren.

The conference was dedicated to a Pietà, made by stone, which was created in Bohemia and exported to Bern. In 1986, she was recovered together with other sculptures destroyed by the Reformation. In addition to reflections on the state of preservation, style, date and type of this figure in comparison with other Bohemian sculptures, the question of the significance of the work in Berne discussed. Was it a deliberate art import that served the interests and preferences of the Bernese elite and, to a certain extent, was to be interpreted as the starting point for subsequent artistic strategies in the emerging city? In this context, the artistic and economic relations in the ancient Holy Roman Empire, specifically those emanating from Prague and Bohemia, from different positions of the sciences and the Bernese example, have to be evaluated with similar cases from the countries of the Holy Roman Empire.
