The original painting materials like painting tubes or palettes can provide us large spectrum of information about artist´s work, his approach to painting technique and specific mixing process on his palette. Unfortunately this type of authentic material is quite rarely preserved until today. This research consist on an investigation of original tubes of oil paint used by Josef Čapek. Josef Čapek is Czech painter, illustrator and writer creating his artworks in the first half of the 20th century, he is well known for his personified cubistic and expressionistic paintings.Three tubes of paint were preserved: blue, orange and yellow one. The tubes are originated from Dutch company Talents from ‘Rembrandt’ range of oil paints. At the time it was possible to buy them in Prag, where Josef Čapek was living. The content of the tubes of oil paints was investigated using non-invasive methods combined with non-destructive ones.
