The author focuses on the graphic sheets in the National Gallery’s collection that link the legendary warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Japanese puppetry (jōruri or bunraku genre). The link between the graphic art and the legend of Yoshitsune does not lie in mere popularity of the theatre plays derived from the legend of Yoshitsune, the author tends to observe also the influence of the physical use of the puppets in the graphic sheets among other issues.
