Wenn wir uns fragen, inwieweit böhmische Aristokraten die Anfänge der Fliegerei in den Ländern der böhmischen Krone beeinflusst haben, sollten wir uns klar machen, dass sie vor allem in den Anfängen dazu in der besten Position waren. Sie verfügten über die notwendigen finanziellen Mittel und dank ihrer Bildung und Sprachkenntnisse auch über eine gewisse Ahnung davon, was in der Welt geschah und wer sich als erster etwas Neues einfallen ließ. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Adelige auch bei den ersten Experimenten mit der Ballonfahrt in Böhmen und Mähren eine wichtige Rolle spielten. In einigen europäischen Ländern ist die Forschung über die Rolle des Adels bei der Entwicklung der Luftfahrt und des Motorsports relativ weit fortgeschritten, die tschechische Geschichtsschreibung widmete sich diesem Thema bisher nur sporadisch. Die Beziehung zwischen Adel und Fliegerei entwickelte sich entlang der Linie Fahrrad - Motorrad - Autofahrer - Pilot. Natürlich hat nicht jeder alle Stufen durchlaufen, aber viele Piloten waren fähige Motorrad- oder Autofahrer, und viele Motorradfahrer wurden nicht weniger erfolgreiche Autofahrer. Aber das gilt für das Zeitalter der Motorisierung und lässt die Ursprünge der Luftfahrt, nämlich die windgetriebenen Ballone, außen vor. Ballons schadeten und schaden der Natur nicht, und zum Starten brauchen sie nur ein kleines Stück Land.

When we ask ourselves to what extent Bohemian aristocrats influenced the early days of flying in the lands of the Bohemian crown, we ought to realise that especially in the beginning, they were in the best position to do so. They had the necessary financial means at their disposal, and thanks to their education and linguistic skills also some idea about what was happening around the world, who was the first to come up with new things. It is thus little wonder that aristocrats feature prominently even in the first experiments with balloon flying in Bohemia and Moravia. In some European countries, research on the role of aristocracy in the development of aeronautics and motorsport is relatively advanced, but Czech historiography so far addressed this subject only sporadically. The relationship between nobles and flying developed along the line of cycling – motorcycling – automobile driver – pilot. Naturally not everyone had gone through all the steps, but many pilots were capable motorcyclists or car drivers, and many motorcyclists became no less successful automobile drivers. But this applies to the era of motorisation and leaves aside the origins of aeronautics, that is, wind-driven balloons. Balloons did not and do not harm nature and all they require to take off is a small plot of land.
