Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
One of the most prominent personalities of the post-war glass art Professor Jiří Harcuba had established himself in the “regal” sphere of the glassmaking art, having developed a worldwide reputation as a master of glass engraving. From the beginning of the 1970s, Harcuba systematically applied himself to creating glass plaques with engraved portraits—psychological studies of important figures in cultural fields. He was always able to emphasize in an extraordinary manner the physiognomic features of the remarkable people he portrayed. His interest in them was not limited to their physical characteristics, but extended to thein life’s work and worldviews. The rendered visages emanate a sense of the inner strength of both the subject and the artist. He also left a remarkable legacy in medal making, and he was for many years a teacher at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. In the final three decades of his life, he taught, lectured, and provided classes abroad, especially in the United States.
