In November 2016, the third and last part of the biggest ever published book from the history of photography (together 3 parts with 6 volumes) volumes, The History of European Photography was published. This volume completed the pursuit of a comprehensive examination of the phenomenon of photography on the European continent in the 20th century. The History of European Photography 1900 – 2000 was brought into existence by many experts in photography from all European countries, several editors, proofreaders, coordinators, designers, etc. All these parts about Czech photography in periods 1900-1938, 1939-1969 and 1970-2000 were written by Vladimír Birgus, head of the Institute of Creative Photography, Silesian University in Opava, and Jan Mlčoch, curator of photographic collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. Each volume, includes indexes of names, maps, chronological tables giving a historical overview of the cultural, socio-political and photo-technical events during a given time range, basic biographies of the mentioned and also the unmentioned photographers who have a place of honour in the history of photography over that period, and bibliographies and detailed biographies of the authors. Material Czech Photography 1970-2000 is published on 32 pages (more than 40 norm pages) is covering the most important trends, photographers and works from this period. Biographies are about 30 artists including Veronika Bromová, Jiří David, Jitka Hanzlová, Lukáš Jasanský and Martin Polák, Viktor Kolář, Josef Koudelka, Jiří Kovanda, Antonín Kratochvíl, Dita Pepe, Ivan Pinkava, Zorka Ságlová, Jindřích Štreit or Miroslav Tichý. The text is illustrated with 24 Czech photographs. In terms of expertise, this book is a serious academic piece of work, which builds the foundation for further comprehensive.
