Glass in Brno and Moravia ca. 1200–1550. Assessment of Finds. Volume I
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The publication assesses the archaeological finds of hollow and window glass and small glass items within the individual historical periods, which with their political and cultural orientation and economic situation formed the background for the use of glass in the Czech lands in the Middle Ages. The Introduction and an overview of the history of research (Chapter I) are followed by the analysis of the products during the reign of the Přemyslids, the Luxembourgs, in the Hussite and post-Hussite period, under Matthias Corvinus and the Jagiello dynasty, as well as in the period of the early Habsburg rule (Chapters II-VI). The chapters are accompanied by drawings of the glass series from the individual periods (Hedvika Sedláčková) and colour photographs of selected glass vessels (Miloš Strnad). The assessment in each period includes introductions presenting the particular historical milieu in which glass was used (Hana Jordánková and Rudolf Procházka). The chapter “Glass under the Luxembourgs” is supplemented with the article “Glassmakers in Brno” employing written records from the 14th and 15th centuries (Milena Flodrová). The assessment of glass in each observed period is based on the processing of over three hundred series of finds from towns, castles and monasteries (Hedvika Sedláčková).
