100 Years of Czech Design
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The catalog of the exhibition “100 Years of Czech Design” presents the most important achievements in the field of Czech design and applied arts of the 20th century and the beginning of the following century in eight chapters, medallions of important personalities and rich pictorial supplement to the Japanese readers. The texts focus not only on the history of Czech design itself, but also describe contemporary social and political context, technological developments and historical context on the European continent, and relate them to the aesthetic criteria of design in various periods. The dramatic changes that the Czech lands underwent during the 20th century influenced the direction of Czech design at that time – design either tended toward international streams (such as functionalism) or it attained absolute independence and uniqueness (such as Czech cubism).
