Changes in the Level of Personality Functioning in Patients with Anxiety Disorders After a Short-Term Inpatient Intervention with Primarily Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Recent research focused on the Level of Personality Functioning (LPF) in the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders. Limited information exists about thepossibility to impact the LPF by psychotherapeutic interventions. Previous studiesidentified LPF impairment in anxiety patients, with significant improvements following longer inpatient therapies for other mental disorders. Our study examines the effects of a short-term inpatient intervention, primarily cognitive-behavioral therapy(CBT), on LPF in anxiety patients. A total of 46 patients in clinical group and 27healthy controls participated, undergoing assessments using the Semi-Structured Interview for Personality Functioning DSM-5 (STiP-5.1) and the Level of PersonalityFunctioning Scale (LPFS) twice over six weeks. The study controlled for demographics, number of hospitalizations, and group therapeutic factors. Baseline results indicated greater LPF severity in the clinical group, which significantly decreased with the intervention, demonstrating medium to large effect sizes. These findings emphasize the diagnostic importance of impaired personality functioning in anxiety disorders and support the effectiveness of short-term interventions with CBT.
