A photocopy of an 18th-century manuscript has been found in the Archives of the Czech Geological Survey. The original text is not there and not yet found anywhere. The document is written in German, in the ?Schwabacher? - running-hand style writing thatwas typically used in the Austro-Hungarian Empire an 18th and 19th centuries. The title of the manuscript is 'Description of the Brown Coal Mine in the Archiepiscopal Manor of Schwatz /at present Světec/. The text describes the mining and a use of browncoal in a small mine in 1766. According to the name on the front-page of the document, the autor is J. P. Habel, who was unknown clerk of the manor of Postoloprty. The 24-page manuscript is divided into 22 sections and also has five author's illustrations, which were incorporated into the text and accompanied by brief descriptions. From a research of the document it shows that it is a unique source of information for its time and is unprecedented in studies of the history of coal mining
