CLASSIFICATION AND ASSESSMENT OF ABANDONED MINING WASTE FACILITIES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
According Act No. 157/2009 Coll., on mining waste management, the Czech Geological Survey carried out a project of the Operational Programme Environment in 2010–2012. The project was entitled “Investigation of closed and abandoned mining waste facilities posing a serious threat to the environment or human health“. The aim was to create an inventory of hazardous mining waste facilities and to develop a methodology for their assessment. In the Czech Republic, 300 potentially hazardous mining waste sites were identified and investigated more elaborately. Subsequently, in the years 2012-2016 were proved a detailed survey at the 38 most contaminated localities. The results were assessed and 19 subjects were included in the Registry of hazardous mining waste facilities. These facilities occur in 6 historical mining districts known as extraction of Ag (Kutna Hora /11 localities/, Stribro /2 loc./ and Pribram /1 loc./), Pb (Olovi /2 loc./), Au-Sb (Milesov /2 loc./), and Cu-Au-Pb-Zn (Bruntal /1 loc./). All these facilities are characterized by high content of As (typical for Czech Massive) and high content of other harmful elements (especially of Pb and Sb). Short characterization of the districts is mentioned in the article.
