Název v původním jazyce
An unusual occurrence of vascoceratid ammonites in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (Czech Republic) marks the lower Turonian boundary between the Boreal and Tethyan realms in central Europe
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The unusual Lower Turonian ammonite fauna comprising taxa Fagesia peroni (Pervinquière, 1907), more abundant Fagesia catinus (Mantell, 1822) and Paramammites polymorphus (Pervinquière, 1907) has been recorded for the first time in the southern margin of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (BCB, Central Europe). The occurrence of these exotic ammonites also represents the northernmost record in the Mid-European seaway linking the Boreal and Tethyan Realms, as these taxa are missing in the western, eastern and northern parts of the basin as well as in the Saxonian, Bavarian and north European basins. The stratigraphic distribution within the Fagesia catinus Zone, newly established for the BCB, is also supported by records of the inoceramid Mytiloides puebloensis (Walaszczyk & Cobban, 2000). Palaeobiogeographic distribution of these ammonites shows a strict boundary in this area and simultaneously reveals significant Tethyan influence in the Central European basin during the Lower Turonian. The migration pattern is linked to the beginning of the Turonian temperature rise and sea-level highstand.
