Flow of Devonian anatectic crust in the accretionary Altai Orogenic Belt, central Asia: Insights into horizontal and vertical magma transfer
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Flow of partially molten crust is a keycontributor to mass and heat redistributionwithin orogenic systems, however, this processhas not yet been fully understood in accretionaryorogens. This issue is addressedin a Devonian migmatite-granite complexfrom the Chinese Altai through structural, petrological, and geochronological investigationspresented in this study. The migmatitegranitecomplex records a gradual evolutionfrom metatexite, diatexite to granite andpreserves a record of two main Devonianphases of deformation designated D1 andD2. The D1 phase was subdivided into anearly crustal thickening episode (D1B) and alater extensional episode (D1M) followed byD2 upright folding. The D1M episode is associatedwith anatexis in the deep crust. Verticalshortening, associated with D1M, gaverise to the segregation of melt and formationof a sub-horizontal layering of stromaticmetatexite. This fabric was reworked by theD2 deformation associated with the migrationof anatectic magma in the cores of F2antiforms. Geochronological investigationscombined with petro-structural analysisreveal that: (1) D1M partial melting startedprobably at 420−410 Ma and formed subhorizontalstromatic metatexites at ∼30 kmdepth; (2) The anatectic magma accumulatedand migrated when a drainage networkdeveloped, as attested by the pervasiveformation of massive diatexite migmatites,at 410−400 Ma; (3) Soon after, massive flowof the partially molten crust from orogeniclower to orogenic upper crustal levels, assistedby the interplay between D2 uprightfolding and magma diapirism, led to migmatite-granite emplacement in the cores of regionalF2 antiforms that lasted until at least390 Ma; (4) a terminal stage was manifestedby the emplacement of 370−360 Ma granitedykes into the surrounding metamorphicenvelope. We propose that Devonian anatexisassisted by deformation governed firstthe horizontal and then the vertical flow ofpartially molten orogenic lower crust, whichdrove crustal flow, mass redistribution, andcrustal differentiation in the accretionarysystem of the Chinese Altai.
