Regarding the question of survival of prehistoric hominides in the Arabian peninsula during arid phases. The ability of karst regions to accumulate water and combination with sedimentary infill of depressions helped the prehistoric groups to cope with phases of ardization. Based on this the karstic parts of Al-hajar mountains are proposed as a viable prehistoric refugium.
