Spatial Information Expert Group (SIEG) Meeting 2/2023
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The main topic of the meeting was information on the further development of the concept of a future Geological Service for Europe. Possible models and forms of organizational design were considered. Changing role of EGS expert groups and potential of their connection to the policy programmes was discussed. Our mission is to develop and manage data, information, and knowledge infrastructures including operating, maintaining, and further developing the different central components of EGDI. New elements will support the concept of a Knowledge Infrastructure. We should establish user communities to understand the needs of the user groups. We will study existing situation and define a base level of information needed in all EU countries to improve data availability and quality. Clear connections with other infrastructures should be established. As the next item on the agenda, the draft rules for the use of EGDI in European geoscience projects involving EGS members and generating data were discussed. To create a sustainable GSE, it will be essential that all three components (technical, content and human resources) are in balance. Current progress of EGDI within the GSEU project and the prototype of EGDI/GSEU Knowledge Infrastructure were presented. A practical contribution of SIEG to sustainability is the ongoing survey of the status of metadata catalogues in individual geological services. Information was given on the successful organization of the 38 GIC Annual Conference 8-11 May 2023 in Ljubljana.
