Endopolyploidy pattern and efficiency of photosynthetic electron transport in Kochia scoparia (L.) Schrad. biotypes resistant/sensitive to atrazine and/or ALS inhibitors
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
DNA ploidy levels in cells of various above-ground parts of Kochia scoparia (L). Schrad. plants showing different sensitivity to triazine herbicides and/or inhibitors of acetolactate synthase (ALS) and previously known to differ in chromosome numbers oftheir root-tip meristems were evaluated using flow cytometry together with the efficiency of photosynthetic electron transport (activities of Photosystems 1 and 2) in isolated leaf mesophyll chloroplasts. Only DNA-diploids were found but endopolyploidy (nuclei with 2C, 4C, and 8C DNA contents) occurred in above-ground parts of all individuals analysed. The susceptible and resistant biotypes did not differ significantly in their endopolyploidy profiles and no differences were found between leaf and stemtissues, either. On the contrary, older tissues showed significantly higher proportion of endopolyploid nuclei. The atrazine resistant biotype was characterized by lower activity of Photosystem 2 compared to other biotypes studied but mai
