Response of microbial activites to additional metal amendment to long-term heavy metal contaminated soils
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The microbial activities in soils could be quite resilient towards toxic effects of metals and could recover after an initial inhibition by high metal inputs. Long-term heavy metal contaminated and non-contaminated soils sampled near the lead smelter ofPříbram (Czech Republic) were used for the 66 days incubation experiment. The soils were treated with Cd (40 mg kg-1 soil) or Pb (500 mg kg ?1 soil). The microbial biomass in the contaminated soil tolerated better the additional metal loading. In comparison with the non-contaminated soil, the respiratory activities and qCO2 were lower in the contaminated soil, which suggests a lower respiratory efficiency under long-term metal contamination. The highest respiratory activities and qCO2 were found at thebeginning of incubation. The obtained results suggest that a long-term contamination with heavy metals decreased the respiratory activities and qCO2, the additional fresh metal input, particularly Pb, increased respiratory activities and
