DRIFT and UV-VIS spectroscopic characterization of humic substances in grasslands after organic and mineral fertilization

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Changes in the chemical composition and stability of humic substances in the soil (soil type fluvisoil) after the application of mineral and organic fertilizers (manure and slurry at a dose of 120 kg N/ha = load of 2 livestock units per hectare) to intensively managed permanent grassland (four mowings per year) were studied. Fertilization options: C - control (without fertilization); FYM - farmyard manure (30.0 t ha-1); CS - cattle slurry (29.0 t ha-1); DIG - digestate (29.0 t ha-1); NPK - mineral fertilizer (120-30-60 kg ha-1). The aim of the study was to evaluate changes in the structural composition and stability of humic substances in the period 2022-2024 and to expand farmers' knowledge of agrotechnical practices for maintaining carbon stocks in the soil under intensive agricultural conditions. The calculated indices showed higher stability and wettability of humic acids after application of FYM, DIG and CS compared to NPK and control. Differences were found in the content of labile aliphatic hydrophobic groups (at 3000-2800 cm-1), aromatic stable and resistant C=C groups (at 1660-1580 cm-1) and hydrophilic amido-, carboxyl- and keto-groups (at 1740-1600 cm-1). The amount of hydrophilic resistant groups at 1660-1580 cm-1 was comparable at all locations. The spectral methods DRIFT and UV-VIS prove to be fast and sufficiently accurate tools for assessing the quality of humic substances in soil, instead of laborious and time-consuming classical fractionation methods.
