Intracytoplasmatic sperm injection (ICSI) is a procedure where the oocyte is fertilized by a direct sperm injection into cytoplasm. In domestic animals, this procedure is used in cases, when conventionally in vitro fertilisation is not effective. It means, where the oocytes can not be fertilised just by mixing oocytes with spermatozoa due to high incidence of polyspermy. This is a case of pig.Unfortunately, the first experiments show that ICSI application in the pig is not as simple as there was originally expected, especially regarding results achieved in human assisted reproduction. In this commentary, we discussed problems which can be related to ICSI procedure in the pig.
