Dehulled white lupine seeds as a crude protein source for lactating rabbit does and their litters
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of the present study was to evaluate dehulled white lupine seeds (DWLS, cv. Zulika) as a crude protein source for rabbit diets in comparison with a traditionally used protein sources. Two lactation diets and two weaning diets were formulated, diets were isonitrogenous and isoenergetic within each category. The control lactation diet (L-SBM) contained soybean meal (130 g/kg as-fed basis) and sunflower meal (50 g/kg as-fed basis) as the main crude protein sources, whereas the experimental lactation diet (L-DWLS) was based on DWLS (180 g/kg as-fed basis). Similarly, the control weaning diet (W-SBM) contained soybean meal (70 g/kg as-fed basis) as the main crude protein source, whereas the experimental weaning diet (W-DWLS) was based on DWLS (70 g/kg as-fed basis). All diets were without added fat. A total of 24 Hyplus rabbit does (12 does per treatment; after the 3rd parturition) were fed one of the two lactation diets during the entire lactation period (32 days). Does were housed in modified cages allowing controlled nursing and separate acces of does and their litters to feed. The litters were standardized to 8 kits immediately after the birth and offered the weaning diets with the same crude protein source as in lactation diet of their mothers from the d 17 of lactation. Five does per treatment were used to determine the milk composition. Does live weight, feed intake and milk production was not affected by dietary treatment. The milk of does fed the DWLS diet contained less caprylic (P=0.044), capric (P=0.009) and linoleic (P=0.035) acids and more oleic (P<0.001), α-linolenic (P<0.001) and eicosapentaenic (P<0.001) acids resulting in a higher PUFA n-3/arachidonic acid ratio (19.08 vs. 11.13 for L-DWLS and L-SBM, respectively; P<0.001). A lower daily solid feed intake (by 3.4 g; P=0.086) leading to higher milk intake/solid feed intake ratio (1.97 vs. 1.53 for W-DWLS and W-SBM, respectively; P=0.024) between d 17 and 32 of lactation was observed in litters fed the W-DWLS diet. It can be concluded that dehulled white lupine seeds (cv. Zulika) can replace traditionally used crude protein sources in rabbit diets. Moreover, favourable effect of DWLS on rabbit milk fatty acid composition was detected. The study was funded by project NAAR QJ 1510136.
