First thorough identification of factors associated with Cd, Hg and Pb concentrations in mosses sampled in the European Surveys 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The factors influencing Cd, Hg and Pb concentrations in mosses sampled within the European Heavy Metals in Mosses Surveys 1990?2005 were evaluated. The analyses of this investigation give a complete overview on the statistical association of Cd, Hg and Pb concentrations in mosses and sampling site-specific and regional characteristics. Distributions of measured and modelled atmospheric deposition loads across Europe were obtained from the European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (EMEP). Bivariate Spearman correlation analyses showed good correlations between Cd and Pb concentrations and the deposition data, while the concentrations of Hg correlated with the deposition data poorly. In individual bio-monitoring campaigns the variability of Hg concentrations was best explained by operation of different factors (distance from pollution sources, analytical methods used, moss species). The concentrations predict well the atmospheric deposition loads of these elements at sites of moss gro
