Protection of Landscape Connectivity for Large Mammals
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Fragmentation of the landscape is perceived today as one of the hot issues of international importance. The migration corridors for large mammals were delimited based on the analyses of distribution of the species and their main migration directions. Among the priorities related to the protection of large mammals? migration corridors in Central Europe was mutual connection of the proposed network in the Czech Republic with similar networks in the neighbouring countries. Those networks were taken into account and connected to our proposed network. Great attention has been paid to life history, ecology, migration behaviour, and delimitation of distribution ranges of focal species. When delimiting the network of interconnected migration corridors, we applied models of potentially suitable habitats as a tool to determine the potential of the landscape to host the populations of the target species. The outputs were also compared with the detailed telemetry data on the species occurrence.
