We read with interest the article by Nguyen et al. onthe association between diabetes mellitus (DM) andmortality among patients with tuberculosis (TB)published recently in this journal.1The authorsinvestigated the association between DM and allcauses of mortality among a large number of patientsundergoing anti-tuberculosis treatment in California,USA. They concluded that TB patients with DM hada greater risk of death during anti-tuberculosistreatment than those without DM. We would encourage future studies to take thesepoints into account when planning a follow-up study.
