Printing has a rich and long tradition in Mikulov (Nikolsburg) and is inherent to the general history of printing in Moravia. At certain times the book production in Mikulov surpassed even larger and more significant Moravian towns. Thanks to the effect of non-Catholic elements and a significant Jewish community the production of books in Mikulov was unusually varied. In the fisrt chapter the article reviews recent research on the Mikulov printers operating here from 16th to 18 th century. In mentions Anabaptist, Piarist as well as Jewish printers . The second chapter is devoted to yet unexplored history of Mikulov printer that was in operation here in the years 1859–1940. It had a privileged position not only in the city but in the entire region. Text focuses on the lives of its individual owners: Johann Bezdieka, Apollinaris Rosenau and Franz Anton Partes Ehrenberger. A significiant portion of the text deals with Nikolsburger Wochenschrift (Mikulov weekly newspaper), a major material that was published here since 1860. The printer was forcibly closed in 1940 and it was not restored after the WWII.
