Nel contesto della storia urbana, in Repubblica Ceca lo studio della storia dei viaggi è attualmente un tema molto sviluppato. Recentemente sono state compiute importanti scoperte negli archivi e nelle biblioteche: i diari di viaggio ed i carteggi ritrovati illustrano molto dettagliatamente i viaggi verso l’Italia intrapresi soprattutto dai nobili boemi e moravi nel XVII e nel XVIII secolo. Queste opere contribuiscono in modo significativo alla comprensione del processo di esplorazione dell’Italia da parte degli abitanti dell’Europa centrale e settentrionale. Non vi è dubbio che il viaggio in Italia giocava un ruolo significativo nella vita degli autori di questi diari. Grazie alla loro esperienza nella Penisola appenninica, la cultura italiana veniva trasmessa oltre le Alpi; per il fatto di conoscere la lingua italiana, potevano svolgere mansioni utili nella corte imperiale di Vienna e ottenevano cariche importanti; proprio loro erano i committenti delle opere artistiche e architettoniche dell’epoca. Poiché la maggior parte di loro si dirigeva in primo luogo verso Roma, lo scopo di questo intervento sarà la comparazione dell’immagine della Città Eterna in due straordinari testi del tardo Seicento: il diario di viaggio di Heřman Jakub Černín (visita in Italia: 1678-1682) e quello di Maxmilián Želecký di Počenice (1694-1695). Questi diari verranno analizzati e inseriti nel contesto di altri viaggi della nobiltà dell’Impero Asburgico durante il Seicento. Questa immagine “soggettiva” della città verrà poi comparata alla descrizione “oggettiva” – quella presentata nelle guide dell’epoca.

In the context of urban history, the study of travel history in the Czech Republic is currently a highly developed topic. Recently, important discoveries have been made in the archives and the libraries: the travel journals and the recounted accounts illustrate in great detail the journeys to Italy, which were undertaken above all by the noble Bohemians and Moravians in the 17th and 18th centuries. These works contribute significantly to the understanding of the process of exploration of Italy by the inhabitants of central and northern Europe. There is no doubt that the journey to Italy played a significant role in the lives of the authors of these journals. Thanks to their experience in the Apennine Peninsula, Italian culture was transmitted beyond the Alps; for the fact of knowing the Italian language, they could perform useful tasks in the imperial court of Vienna and obtained important positions; they were the patrons of the artistic and architectural works of the time. Since most of them headed primarily towards Rome, the purpose of this intervention will be to compare the image of the Eternal City in two extraordinary texts of the late seventeenth century: the travel diary of Heřman Jakub Černín (visit to Italy: 1678 -1682) and that of Maxmilián Želecký of Počenice (1694-1695). These journals will be analyzed and inserted in the context of other journeys of the nobility of the Hapsburg Empire during the seventeenth century. This "subjective" image of the city will be compared to the "objective" description - the was presented in the guides of the time.
