Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage: The Beginning or the End of Sustainability?
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The UNESCO lists of intangible cultural heritage have become a powerful global tool for promotion of traditional culture and raising awareness about it. Currently, the term cultural heritage is used for elements which are highlighted and consciously protected by their communities. The aim of inscribing elements on world heritage lists is to secure their protection, awareness raising and first of all viability of these elements. However, many serious threats to their spontaneous transmission are involved in the process, too. Each inscription implicates a change, sometimes even a breakpoint in the existence of the inscribed element. The chapter analyzes the inscription process as well as futher changes accompanying the existence of the elements after their inscription. We aim to answer the question, whether the wholy system of listing does or does not contribute to the sustainable development of the intangible cultural heritage.
