Second phase of non-destructive archaeological survey of field fortification features in the neighbourhood of the Smolkov Artillery Fort
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
At the end of the war, German forces established a system of light field fortification features in the neighbourhood of the main fortification line. These structures perish much faster than the stable system of Czechoslovak fortifications and they are paid zero attention from the perspective of heritage preservation. However, they represent an important source of information and complete our knowledge of the course of individual military operations, of the number of deployed soldiers, but also of leisure activities of soldiers, etc. These anthropogenic relics can only be studied on very few locations, whose terrain was not noticeably modified or destroyed in the past. One of these places is the military area in the cadastral district of Smolkov (Moravian-Silesian Region, Opava District) in the vicinity of the entrance blockhouse MO-Sm-S 41, in a location called “Nad Valchou”. The site is situated halfway between the towns of Opava and Ostrava, more precisely 14 km east of Opava and 13 km west of Ostrava, in a hilly region south of the built-up area of the municipality of Smolkov.
