Characteristics and Sources of PAHs, Hopanes, and Elements in PM10 Aerosol in Tulsipur and Charikot (Nepal)
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
PAH and metal concentrations were measured in PM10 particles samples collected from two Nepalese city center, Tulsipur (725 m above sea level, 150,000 inhabitants) and Charikot (1,550 m above sea level, 23 000 inhabitants). The daily average PM10 and PAH concentrations showed seasonal variations, with lower concentrations in monsoon period and the higher values pre-monsoon period. Daily average PM10 and PAH concentration was 133,1 μg m-3 and 23,8 ng m-3 in pre-monsoon period and 49,6 μg m-3 and 2,3 ng m-3 in monsoon period, respectively. IndP / (IndP + BghiP) ratio was higher than 0.5 during monsoon period indicates pollution due to combustion of biomass and coal. IndP / (IndP + BghiP) between 0.2 – 0.5 during pre-monsoon period indicates pollution due to petroleum combustion. Fla / (Fla + Pyr) ratio between 0.3 and 0.5 during pre-monsoon and monsoon periods indicates a high proportion of petroleum product combustion. The combustion of biomass combined with dense traffic in the center of both cities were source of PAH. Daily average PM10 and metals concentration was 49,6 μg m-3 and 6,8 ng m-3 in monsoon period. High concentrations were found for Earth crust metals (Fe, Ca, Al, Mg, Na, K, Ti), mainly due to street dust resuspension. Other metals are present in PM10 aerosol samples at lower concentrations. These metals come mostly from local emission sources such as industrial activity (Co, Cd, Cu, Cr, V, Ni, As, Ca, Mn), coal combustion (Se, (K, Mn, Zn, Na), emissions from automobile transport (Sb, Mn, Ba, Zn, Cu, Fe, V, Ca, Sn, Cd, Cr, Mg, Ni). The study also establishes influence of wind direction and speed with elemental concentrations of PM10 in Tulsipur and Charikot.
