The Mining of Iron Ore in the Central Region of the Moravian Karst
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Slavic bloomeries were already in operation in the traditional iron region of the Moravian Karst from the 8th to the 11th century. Iron hammer mills were operated there in the last of Middle Ages and were later replaced at the beginning of the 17th century by production in ironworks equipped with charcoal blast furnaces (Adamov, Blansko, Jedovnice, Josefov), whose use declined at the end of the 19th century. Iron ore obtained for the use of local ironworks was mined in the region roughly surrounded by the present-day villages of Olomučany, Rudice, Habrůvka and Babice nad Svitavou, though this region was designated as the Rudice Plateau and Babice Plateau. Limonite iron ore was mined from shallow depths, though in some cases the depth of mines rose to the surface and the ore was mined in open working. Near the village of Rudice the ore was extraordinarily mined at depths of more than 100 m to 140 m. Ore layers ranges mostly the lenses and layers up to 1,2 m thickness, but the north of B
