Palliative chemotherapy for advanced breast cancer is expected to relieve symptoms of the disease, not to cure the patients. However, it is not free from side-effects. The paper shows that when negative impact of the side-efects and positive impact to relieve the symptoms are compared, still chemotherapy improves the quality of life and might be cost-effective in terms of reduced intake of analgetics.
