Der Beitrag interpretiert Franz Kafkas kurze Erzählung "Das Stadtwappen" vor dem Hintergrund einer Aussage Libuše Moníkovás in ihrem Roman "Pavane für eine verstorbene Infantin", mit der sie (nicht nur) diesen Text Kafkas stärker als bisher üblich an seinen Entstehungsort Prag bindet. Demgegenüber hat die Forschung bisher meist dafür plädiert, Kafkas Texte von solchen Kontexten gänzlich zu lösen. Die Analyse zeigt jedoch auf, wie präzise sich "Das Stadtwappen" auf die spezifisch interkulturelle Situation Prags im frühen 20. Jahrhundert beziehen lässt. Dies hat im Übrigen auch schon Kurt Krolop angedeutet, dem dieser Aufsatz, der in einem Sammelband zu seinem 80. Geburtstag erschienen ist, gewidmet ist.

The article interprets Franz Kafka's short story "The City Coat of Arms" ("Das Stadtwappen") against the backdrop of a statement of Libuše Moníková in her novel "Pavane für eine verstorbene Infantin" ("Pavane for a Dead Infanta"), with which she ties (not only) this text of Kafka more than usual to the place of his origin in Prague. In contrast, the research has been mostly advocated to solve Kafka's texts entirely of such contexts. The analysis shows, however, how accurate "The City Coat of Arms" can be related to the specific cross-cultural situation of Prague in the early 20th Century. This has, moreover, hinted Kurt Krolop already, to whom this essay, published in an anthology to mark his 80th birthday, is dedicated.
