Beadwork as an Example of Decorative Folk Art

Beadwork existed in traditional folk dress in many regions of Eastern and Central Europe from 19th to second half of 20th centuries. It was not only decoration but also it had great sacral functions. Many examples of folk beads decorative art were foundin museum collections of The Czech Republic, The Slovak Republic and the Ukraine. Bohemia was the main center of European beads industry from 18th to 20th centuries and unique folk beadwork was formed in these territories in the second half of the 19 century. Beads decor mostly appeared on tradition dress of South Czech Blata and Chodsko, Slovakia centrals regions and Western Ukraine. Beadwork on these territories presents a folk decorative art at last period of traditional culture's development beforeits extinction. Rich decor of Czech Blata's veils, Slovakian headdresses or Ukrainian jewelry combined old traditionally clothes' types, techniques, ornaments and symbols with new material such as beads.
