Besprechung eines Buches, das die Geschichte der Ägyptologie in der Zeit vom Ersten Weltkrieg bis zum Dritten Reich behandelt. Trotz seines englischsprachigen Titels enthält es auch zwei deutschsprachige Beiträge: der eine befasst sich mit dem Ägyptologen Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr v.Bissing und seinen politischen Aktivitäten während des I. Weltkriegs, der andere, ausgehend von dem hier in Faksimile wiedergegebenen und als "Steindorff-Liste" bekanntgewordenen Brief an J. Wilson vom Juni 1945, bietet einen Überblick über die Haltung deutscher Ägyptologen während des Dritten Reiches.

Review of a book about history of Egyptology from World War I to the Third Reich. In spite of its English title the book contains also two contributions in German dealing on the one hand with the egyptologist Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr v.Bissing and hispolitical activities during World War I, and on the other hand giving an overview of German egyptologists and their political attitude during the Third Reich. The starting point of this overview is a letter written by Steindorff to J. Wilson in June 1945and published here as facsimile.
