Rubén Darío resuelve en su obra las cuestiones claves de los artistas de finales del S. XiX y principios del S. XX. Es uno de los fundadores del cuento hispanoamericano moderno. Darío centra su atención en tres campos fundamentales: la relación entre elartista y la sociedad, los motivos fantástcios y el futuro de Hispanoamérica. Su visión es a menudo amarga y triste, no obstante, mantiene su anhelo de armonía, no sólo la poética, sino también la armonía del hombre y el Universo.

Rubén Darío expresses in his work the main concerns of the artists at the turn of the 20th century. He is one of the founders of the modern Hispanoamerican short-story. Darío concentrates on three major tpics: the relationship between the artist and thesociety, the fantastic motives and the situation of the Hispanoamerican countires and their future. His vision is often bitter and sad, but despite that, Darío always craves for harmony: not just a poetic one, but also a harmony of a human being with theUniverse.
