The study focuses on the lesser-known activities of Pasquale Bondini, a bass and a famed Prague impresario in Mozart's day, before his arrival in Prague in 1781. It follows his career from what was probably his debut in 1749 in his native Ascoli Piceno,through his years of ""apprenticeship"" in smaller Italian theatres and his activities with various opera companies in central Europe in the 1760s, until he established himself in Dresden (1765). There, Bondini played about a hundred roles from the vastopera buffa repertoire, but he also gained valuable managerial experience, which helped him to earn the privilege of running the Saxon court drama company (1777), while also preparing him for his later successes in Prague.
