The study analyzes wartime journalistic texts by Olga Fastrová (1876-1965), the first Czech professional journalist, published during World War I in the leading Czech daily newspaper Národní politika, in the columns Ženská hlídka (Women's Watch) and Móda (Fashion). It notes the main themes that emerged from the published texts, which were often responses to numerous letters from female (but also male) readers. These topics included women's education, related to women entering new professions, the question of choosing between employment and marriage, social care for children, widows, and divorced women, and the transformation of gender roles under wartime conditions. Based on the analyzed topics, the article shows how the war accelerated women's economic independence and challenged traditional assumptions about women's dependence on marriage. At the same time, it shows that even seemingly marginal topics, such as fashion, served as a space for the formation of national identity, women's self-perception, and their emancipation.
