THE ARMENIANS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The first part of the article will briefly introduce the Armenian history, including the cornerstones of the Armenian culture, recall the events that led tothe formation of the Armenian Diaspora in the world and in the Czech Republic, and focus in more detail on the Armenian-Czech community and its activities. Thispaper does not primarily deal with the history of the Armenians and Armeniaitself, but, in order to understand some of the character traits of the Armenians, their views and motivations, one must have at least a basic understanding of theArmenian identity. The latter very strongly reflects the Armenian history andculture; in every Armenian household one encounters the Armenian national andreligious symbols, elements of the Armenian culture (e.g. music or food), andvirtually any conversation with Armenians will sooner or later touch on aphenomenon related to the Armenian history. As will be shown later, Armenian history being an important factor in shapingthe identity of the Armenian society and each individual, is actually the reason forthe Armenian diaspora. The Armenian minority in the Czech Republic is considered a youngcommunity. The first Armenians began to arrive in the Czech Republic in the early1990s after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Over time, the Armenian communitybegan to grow and the number of Armenians coming to the Czech Republic is stillincreasing.
