Die These, dass das Begehen von Unrecht für den Handelnden schlimmer ist, als es zu erleiden, gehört zu den berühmten Thesen des Gorgias. Platon erklärt jedoch nicht, worin genau die Verletzung der Seele besteht und wie genau eine solche Verletzung durch die ungerechte Handlung verursacht wird. Dieser Artikel leistet einen neuen Beitrag zu diesen beiden Fragen. Erstens schlage ich vor, dass die Verletzung am besten als ein Funktionsmangel verstanden werden kann. Dieser Funktionsmangel besteht in der Unfähigkeit der Seele, über sich selbst zu herrschen. Zweitens schlage ich vor, wie diese Unfähigkeit durch das Begehen von Unrecht zugefügt wird. Ungerechtes Handeln stärkt die schlechten oder übermäßigen Begierden der Seele, so dass sie einen unangemessenen Einfluss auf unsere Motivation haben. Insbesondere prägen sie entscheidend, was uns &quot;am besten&quot; erscheint.

The thesis that committing injustice is worse for the agent than suffering it belongs to the famous theses of the Gorgias. However, Plato does not explain what precisely the injury of the soul amounts to, or how precisely is such an injury caused by the unjust action. This article makes a new contribution to both these questions. Firstly, I propose that the injury can be best understood as a deficiency in function. This functional deficiency lies in the incapacity of the soul to rule over itself. Secondly, I propose how is this incapacity inflicted by committing injustice. Unjust action strengthens the bad or excessive desires of the soul, so that they come to have an undue influence on our motivation. Specifically, they shape decisively what &quot;seems best&quot; to us.
