Der Aufsatz behandelt Franz Kafkas Vorliebe für kleine thetarale Formen wie Kabarett, Tingeltangel, Varieté, Chantant etc., die er dem "großen" Theater oder der Oper vorzog. Die Voraussetzung dazu bildet allerdings der spezifische Blick Kafkas auf diesetheatralen Szenen, der sich einesteils auf Details konzentriert, andererseits diese Szenen ins abgründig Existenzielle hin öffnet.

The essay deals with Franz Kafka's preference for small theatrical forms such as cabaret, tingeltangel, vaudeville, chantant etc., which he preferred to the "big" theater or opera. The prerequisite for this, however, is Kafka's specific view of these theatrical scenes, which on the one hand concentrates on details and on the other opens these scenes up to the abysmal existential.
