Kniha sestává z esejů, které se kriticky zamýšlejí nad situací demokracie a svobody v současném světě. Autorovy analýzy krize naší polistopadové demokracie i příčin vzestupu populismu, nesystémových politických stran a moci oligarchů, ústí v obecnější diagnózu problémů současného západního modelu demokracie spojené se socio-ekonomickým systémem kapitalismu. Na úvahy o hlubších příčinách celého komplexu krizových jevů, s nimiž se potýká současná západní civilizace, navazují reflexe o globální mezní situaci, kterou znamenala pandemie koronaviru. Jádro knihy tvoří eseje, které zasazují do širších souvislostí ruskou agresi proti Ukrajině a snaží se zhodnotit situaci a vyhlídky demokracie, svobody a míru v globálním kontextu. Poslední tři eseje pak z obecnějšího filosofického hlediska objasňují pojmy svobody, lidských práv a rozdíl mezi liberální a neliberální demokracií. Knihu uzavírá trojice rozhovorů, v nichž se autor stručnou a přístupnou formou vrací k hlavním tématům knihy, ale v nichž se dostane i na hlubší filosofické otázky, jako je otázka zla, lidské a umělé inteligence nebo smyslu života.

The book consists of a series of essays that undertake a critical examination of the condition of democracy and freedom in the contemporary world. The author&apos;s analyses of the crisis afflicting Czech post-November democracy, together with inquiry into of the rise of populism, non-systemic political movements, and power of oligarchs, culminate in a broader diagnosis of the structural deficiencies inherent in the prevailing Western model of democracy as it is interwoven with the socio-economic system of capitalism. Reflections on the deeper causes of the complex of crises confronting contemporary Western civilization are followed by considerations of the global boundary situation brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. At the core of the book are essays that situate the Russian aggression against Ukraine within a wider framework and seek to assess the current state and future prospects of democracy, freedom, and peace on a global scale. The final three essays elucidate the concepts of freedom, human rights, and the distinction between liberal and illiberal democracy from a more general philosophical standpoint. The book concludes with three interviews in which the author revisits the central themes of the work in a concise and accessible manner, while also engaging with deeper philosophical questions such as the nature of evil, the relationship between human and artificial intelligence, and the meaning of life.
