Wooden coffins and their iconography from the tomb of Werkaure (AC 26) in Abusir Centre
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This paper examines the complete decorated wooden coffins dating to the Third Intermediate Period that were discovered in the tomb of Prince Werkaure at Abusir South. It provides a comprehensive analysis of their archaeological context, including the circumstances of their discovery and their original placement within the tomb. The study also addresses questions of chronology, offering a detailed assessment of their dating based on stylistic, epigraphic, and comparative evidence. In addition, the paper investigates the coffins' construction techniques, such as woodworking methods, joinery, surface preparation, and the application of pigments. Finally, the decorative programme is analysed, with an emphasis on iconographic themes, textual elements, and the broader religious and cultural motifs characteristic of the Third Intermediate Period. Through this multifaceted approach, the study aims to situate these coffins within their historical, artistic, and funerary context.
